I think that I'm starting too many question threads so I want to make this my only one...

My first question:
Should I take out the sponge cartridge from my two HOBs and fill them up completely with bio rings? Or should I keep the sponges for mechanical filtration?

And should I bury my bio balls under the substrate? Or will this be inefficient?

And also, will a refugium of 5 gallons be a waste of time for a 10 gal tank?

1. No, you need the sponges to trap debris.

2. I dont know, but I think it would be wasteful and serve no purpose.

3. Not really, if you wanna do it, go ahead. It could be a nice idea.

Okay, thanks.

I just want a separate place to put some macroalgae and feeder animals for my mantis...I have some (ma) in a nursery box right now.
