So I noticed just a little while ago what looks like a zit on my convict's gill. This is something I haven't seen before... Any ideas? Sorry that the pictures aren't very clear, couldn't get him to hold still for a portrait.

Btw, the water params are...

Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: ~50ppm (today is wc day though; that'll be fixed shortly)
80 degrees F

Filtration is a Fluval 305 and AC110 on a my 55 gallon. I haven't added salt or any meds yet.

If it's white and there is fuzziness anywhere could be
some kind of fungal infection maybe but first course of treatment always is to make sure the water quality is damn good(but i guess that it should be ok now right?.). also adding some aquarium salt is always beneficial especially if the problem is parasitic.
if it looks like something latched on could be a parasite or if looks like a swollen sore could be a bacterial infection. plenty of medications for fungus, bacteria, or parasites out there but you best figure out what the problem is before needlessly medicating. could even just be a growth or tumor or something.

Ok could be

Don't panic this is just a load of info with descriptions read carefully also i think it might be columnaris might not be but guess only choice is research also i think adding salt helps but that might screw up your water more well hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. I'm doing a water change right now, and I'm going to start with just adding salt and watch him for a few days. His tankmates are a 6" senegal bichir, 4" clown loach, 2 gold gouramis and 3 tiger barbs... none of which are showing any of the same symptoms. The convict is still acting normally as well.
