i think that my convict are breeding. can anyone tell me some symptoms that its breeding? they usually open their gills at each other and shake heads

Well first off, are you sure that you have males and females?!
The gill flaring and head shaking is usually a sign of aggression, but, if you have a male and female that have paired off, they will do this to their tankmates when they are getting ready to spawn as well as during and after spawning. It's a territorial warning. Have two of them marked out a space, guarding it from the other fish?

First you need to sex them, if they are indeed a pair and ready to breed then the female would have orange coloration around her vent and up her sides. Males lack this coloration. Convicts will display at eatchother regardless of breeding condition and gender.

yes female will have orange and some of mine even have pink around their bellies

I have 2 set of convict fry. I'm obviously not the one to sex convicts. I thought I have a male and female in one tank and 2 males in the other. one of my "males" had little one.
