X2, its what I did. I'm raising up fry now in a 5.5 and the cons are already bout to spawn again in the 55 haha.

You can certainly do that, but I think Fluval makes prefilter sponges and every LFS should stock them.

I was thinking the same thing when I read the title.

To the OP congrats on the fry. A sperate grow out tank with a seeded sponge filter or a sponge pre-filter over the intake of your filter on the main tank either one will do the job. Good luck with them.
