Hi all, I have a pair of convicts in my 30 gallon tank along with my 4 inch oscar and my pleco. There is no doubt that one is a male and the other is a female but they just will not breed. I have tried many things. I started off with the water at 72 degrees and raised it 2 degrees every week. I am constantly changing the water, I feed them plenty and in a variety (fish flakes both tropical and goldfish, freeze dried bloodworms, pellets, and live worms). They have been together in the same tank for about 2 and a half months now. The female is 1 1/2in and the male 2in long. The temperature is currently set to 80 and the male is always chasing the female but that's all. Any suggestions?

I put 6 pairs in a tank and had them pair off.

The Pleco I don't trust. If she lays eggs in the Rocks he'll suck it up.

if you were to have more pairs it might be easier.

All i did was put 6 Pairs of convicts in a 55. 3 flower pots and just fed them.

2 weeks later they paired off and layed eggs.

get a bigger tank they will have more room and the o will not bug them as much you will need a bigger tank eventually if your gonna keep the o and this is a good excuse to get one. and big tanks are sweet.

I think the Oscar has a bit to do with it. Maybe remove him (if you can) and give it a couple weeks.

Probably the Oscar.. and as the Oscar grows in that tank the cons will become a snack. They grow much much much slower then an Oscar.

If you truly want to breed the convicts, remove the Oscar and Pleco.

If you are positive you have a pair, then do partial water changes about every 3-4 days, and keep your temp at the high 70s. The fresh water should help to stimulate them.

If you don't have a pair, I would add about 4 more Cons about the same size to the tank, and wait until two of them naturally pair off.

Well I can't take the oscar out cuz I don't have another tank but that is not a big worry for because he might be four inches but those damn little convicts won't let themselves be bullied at all and the pleco don't like to stick to the gravel. I have a flowering pot in there already but mayBE
