Well I think every fish keeper has to find a tank on Craigslist for cheap. If you haven't yet keep looking! Everyone has that deal they will never forget. Well I just found mine. I've been looking for a 180 gallon since I knew how much I was getting back for my tax refund. I couldn't find one cheap though. Saw a couple on Craigslist for 1k or more and it was basically a stand and the tank nothing special.
Well I came across a listing for a 180 with stand,wet/dry, extra filters, uv sterilizers, lots of chemicals, other basic items and a 29 gallon and stand. Along with the lights for the tanks of course for $675. Already It was looking good. So emailed him and he still had the tank for sale. Checked it out Saturday before work and got it all for $600!!! In California this might not seem like a steal, but in Ohio where I live this is as good as it gets. I mean I could have gotten the $1100 one I saw, but heck new ones are 7-800 roughly. So I went yesterday (Tuesday night) to pick up all of the "extra stuff" so we can just worry about the tank next week while I find some people to help take it home.
"Extra Stuff"
2-Millenium 3000 power filters (basically an older version of an Emperor 400)
2-13 watt UV sterilizers 150gph
HOT magnum canister filter
Magnum 350 Canister Filter
2-Rio 2500's I believe their over 700gph pumps.
2-400 watt heaters
Tons of chemicals and food, little ornaments and other fish related items
29 gallon and wrought iron stand and two single light fixtures for it
Now the beast (180 and stand/etc.)
180 gallon fish tank
1100 gph wet/dry with all the fixings for it to work (this is $275 brand new)
Dual overflow box which supposedly still works when power is out
Nice wooden stand, no particle boad crap
2-double light fixtures (thinking of only turning these on for displaying purposes and use the singles for everyday use)
2-single light fixtures
I think that's it. Pretty good IMO. The 29 gallon has some glass chipped near the top. So I'm thinking of making it into a Fire Bellied Toad tank since they only need a few gallons of water at most. The 180 is going to be most likely a pair of rays.
