Hi! I want to know if this is possible:

I want a macroalgae display nano 10gal. I hope that I won't need a skimmer.

Basically:
1 Stomatopod
Lots of lava rock stacked at the back with an open semicircular arena in the middle
10lbs of LR maximum
Probably some snails and hermit crabs (can be prey for mantis)
Grape Caulerpa
Feather Caulerpa
Red Grape Caulerpa
Red unknown macroalgae
Chaeto
Zoanthids
Do you think this will make a good display? Will I imperatively need strong lighting? I can get fluorescent 24w bulbs cheaply.

So the grape caulerpa will be at the top, growing so that it is almost emerging out of the surface. Then lower down the red macroalgae and the chaeto. The feather caulerpa will be at the bottom.

The mantis shrimp will have it's cavity opening facing the open area, where there will be a small carpet of zoanthids.

How does this sound? Give me advice. How the heck do I feed corals?

in a ten gallon that much algea is either going to need constant tripping or remove some types of it..

lighting isn't going to be amjor issue PC would work a-ok

i've never had to fee my zoos

Alright. I'll put up with constant trimmin :D

What's PC lighting?

So my future zoos just sit there and dont need anything?

standard florecents will not be enough light for the zoo's .. you will need a min of good pc's for the zoo's they feed off the light and need more/stronger light than algea's will

PC=Power Compact

also what kind of mantis shrimp are u planning on putting in there, some will grow to big.

Well I got a peacock mantis today. I wasn't planning on a peacock - I was going to go for something much smaller. But peacocks are super rare and it seemed good for me.

I had a really good conversation with my family over dinner...actually got them generally interested and impressed with it. I explained about how hard they can strike and then coincidentally the mantis made a huge huge crack (audible above the roar of football on the telly) and subtly introduced the idea of a 55 gallon ;D

a peacock would eventually out grow a 10 gallon

they'd need more like a 29 or so

My 10gal has a leak near the top.

My parents saw me feeding the cute thing...they like it :D

Hope they will spoil it like the oscar my dad had 20 years ago (hopefully monetarily and tank-wise, not sticking their hands into the tank)
