My crazy idea

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You only need a 55 or 75 you could actually use the 100 and set the baffles in there so you can use it as a grow out tank as well as a sump. Look up some refugium setups

It certainly isn't too big, you can never have too big a sump!!

"Is it necessary?" is the real question, you could quite likely get away with something smaller but having more space to play with would be cool. For me it would depend on the dimensions, if it is the same footprint as a 75g just taller I wouldn't use it, but if it gives you more length to play with them it could be handy.

I would go for it. I have a 55g sump on my 225g and I would like more room to play with.
As David said...depends on the dims of the 100g....as well as your budget. YOu can never have too big of a sump. It just adds to the total water volume and thats never bad :)

x2 to the growout tank idea. This is actually a great idea.

funny i have been plannig a 125 sump for a 180 reef tank ,in it will go a section as a hospitail tank,qt section with a hob and can be filled when needed from main tank. along with filter socks section skimmer section fuge section return section ,so i say you can never have to big of a sump 18fisher

either use duckweed or just use the sticky way.. pothos.. my setup 300 gal with 125 gal sump.. i think where my matrix is at i'm planning of adding a basket full of pothos and to hold the pothos i'll use matrix instead of gravels.. addes more bio and denitrates at the sametime.. now i have to find bio home to suspend the basket in half submerged...
