So this is cool to watch. The 4-5" Creek Chubs I got Sunday night were eating flake and handfeeding in 24 hours and now the bull male is dry spawning with two females. He'll swim up next to one and swim with it in a circle around the tank then the female starts shaking back and forth and the fish quickly dart away from each other. I haven't seen any eggs so I'm thinking it's just dry runs while they warm up to lay eggs. This is nothing but awesome except for one thing getting in the way. The 4 chubs are currently growing out in a 30 long but they're sharing it with a 2.75" green sunfish that just loves to harass them. I wasn't expecting this much aggression when I added the chubs and even though I did add the chub as a distraction for the sunfish I now love the chubs just as much
. She keeps chasing them around the tank and when they're trying to spawn and she'll bite one pretty often. If they did lay eggs I'd want to keep them so if probably put them in a breeder net at the surface and hope to get a nice couple of fry.
Regardless of them breeding the aggression is getting rediculous with the sunfish. If this keeps up for much more than a week I'm going to have to move either the sunfish or the chubs.
My only option of where to move either of them into would be my 75 gallon. It's current stock includes 6 giant danios, 1 Striped Raphael Cat, 1 Gibbiceps Pleco, 1 Yellow Bullhead, and 2 1" cutteri cichlid juvies that even though I've tried for hours I can't catch to get out of the tank.
The chubs are going to go into the 75 eventually regardless since they'll outgrow the 30 they're in but I could keep them in it for now if that's better.
Which of the fish (either four 4-5" creek chubs or one 2.75" green sunfish) would be a better candidate to move to the 75?
