These are really cool pikes! Mine was really dark for a long time until he adjusted to captive life. I've got him on sinking krill pellets, new life spectrum, and massivore. Within the first two weeks of getting him on pellets, he colored up really nicely. This species is susceptible to hole in the head/lle... A lot of them come to the shops with erosion I've noticed. But in any event, he has fattened up a lot and his red is coming out a lot more too. Notice the red around his eyes, that was not there for the first 5 months I've had him. I got him beginning of May-11. He was skinny until about a month ago. Wasn't sure he was going to make it. He was getting beat up by a C Sveni up until about a month ago and it was about 3/4 his size.

Now he is the king of the tank. He owns!Atabapo II 002.JPGAtabapo II 017.JPGAtabapo II 012.JPGAtabapo II 010.JPGAtabapo II 008.JPGAtabapo II 007.JPGAtabapo II 006.JPGAtabapo II 003.JPGAtabapo II 001.JPGAtabapo II 022.JPG

There is never nothing not to love about pikes.

i got 3 of these myself, these do get hole in head easy but you can fix it with alot of water changes or setup a drip system and a very good mechanical filteration system.also add salt to the tank for a week to heal the wounds they probably wont come back if caught early .

yours appears to be in a similar stage of color development! the red is coming in around the eyes just like yours it also appears shes turning red slowly. try to feed frozen foods and vary the diet.

i love my pikes as much as my stingrays now awsome fish i cant wait to see how every body atabapo II turn out.ill post some pics of mine soon

I'm considering investing into a denitrator. I know a lot of specimens from SA are sensitive to nitrate.

if u run a sump you can use a plant refugium. basically a bunch bamboo with a light. ive been meaning of setting this up for a while just never got around to it :irked:

Interesting. So could you just use like a 5 gallon and plant a bunch of bamboo. Then maybe use a pump that goes a few gallons per hour? How much flow do you need? Do you know of any plans that have been successfully implemented?
