Hi,

My Cutteri Cichlids have breed and i now have fry which are about 5-6mm in size, now i want to keep all of them and get them growing.

Now the parents are doing a great job the Male is guarding even though they are the only Cichlids in the tank and the Female is moving them around and trying to keep them all together.

Im finding it very intresting to watch, now i have a couple of questions:

1. Whats the best way to get food into them?, im currently putting in flakes but by the time they start to sink the parents eat most of it first.

2. To get them to grow on abit quicker should i separate them from the parents and put them in their own smaller tank so that they defo get abit more food and i can give them alot more fresh water OR let the parents do what they have got to do?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks Darren.

For feeding, try getting a cup/container of tank water, crush up flakes into the container, mix the crushed flakes into the water, and pour it back into the tank towards the cloud of fry. This should get some of the small particles down to where they are. Full flakes won't do as good a job.

With cutteri, I would leave the fry with the parents until they are ready to spawn again. Once the parents are at it again, pull the fry to another tank.

Good luck with them.

I would pulverize the some of the flakes. Watch just in case the parents start to eat them. I would leave them with the parents as long as the parents are taking care of them.
