Hi all
been reading this forum quite a bit and am pretty sure my dats are 2 IT's and one AT... If some one can confirm for me it would be great... I have had the AT for around 3 years... he will eat pellets, loves bloodworms... but has grown incredibly slow... still maybe 5-6 inches at 3 years... is that normal? His color absolutely never changes.... the two little IT's seem to change color quite frequently... again is this normal??? will the it's grow faster than my AT?
thanks in advance...

ps they live with a couple of ornate bichirs and severums in a 135... everybody seems to get a long pretty well

yup you got 1 at and 2 indos. 5-6 inches seems slow even for a dat. I've grown indos from less than an inch to 12 inches in a year.

yes the at staying stable and the it's changing is normal in my experience. indos get larger than at so yes they should grow faster

Looks like AT and two ITs to me...yes they are slow growers, whether one will grow faster than the other I think it depends on each individual fish's appetite and how much they eat, water quality...etc...

It's normal for datnoids to go unstable or fade in color.

yeah from my experience my ATs never went unstable they always stayed the same no matter what i did in the tank. the indos however would darken up just from me siphoning the tank.

thanks so much for your help... I know the growth is slow... on the AT,,, I can already see good growth on the IT's.... the AT is a excellent eater... I am pretty good at growing big fish... maybe it is just some small genes for him? would like to get em big enough that they can go in my 230 with this big guyrtc.JPG

They will never be big enough for that Guy :p.

My fish life is sparked up with Polys :)

thats what i am afraid of... spent enough time worrying about the ornate bichir eating the small dats, and the polys are pretty lazy... the red tail is not... he once ate a full grown green terror... tail hung out of his mouth for days... survived the experience though..
