my first try and they went for it! first the biggest AT was hesitant but the smaller AT went and took the tiny pieces. all the other NTT's 3 of them then followed! then the AT took the shrimps too! i had to cut the shrimp to bite size tho but its worth it. and it was only the first try!:nilly:

no more live feeders! wohoo!:nilly:

That's always a big day. Congrats on making the change!

Just wait until you try to get them pelletized foods... :nilly:

That was my greatest triumph with my other dats after weaning them off of feeders to frozen shrimp. Such stubborn albeit amazing fish.

This is good, but your Dats will not stay healthy on a steady diet of only shrimp. Live feeders are a pain, but they are nutritious. You'll have to find other things they will eat in addition to the shrimp so that you can give them a varied diet. In the absence of feeders, pellets are probably the best substitute.

thanks man! i just dont want them on live feeders. so far, they are really not interested in sinking pellets but frozen shrimp is already a big difference. i will still try to feed pellets but for now, shrimp is good!

i would rather feed shrimp and other frozen foods than live. in all my experience with live feeders, its always parasites and death. ill keep on trying
pellets and other frozen foods but will not give them live anymore.

One other thing you can do to get some additional mileage out of the shrimp is to soak the pieces in Kent Zoe before feeding. I do this once a week to give them Vitamin C.

one thing i observed with feeding them live compared to MP or other frozen food is that no matter how many MP i gave them they dont seem to grow that fast compared when you give them feeders.... you will really see a difference. but likewise i stay away from feeders too....

Here's a strategy that's worked for me..feed them shrimp consecutively and then start mashing pellets into the shrimp. They'll get used to it after a while but don't ever go back to feeders. IMO, feeder fish are the best way to introduce disease to your tank. Think about the nastiest overcrowded tank in any petshop...it's the feeder tank.
