well i havent made it yet,but i will be making it out of pvc.


i know it shows one powerhead,but i got a barbed splitter that will let me use my dual penguin 550's.will it be fine for a backup?the powerheads flow about 175gph a piece and my main filtration is a emperor 400 (on my 55 gal, it does great). any way to improve the design? i will use 3/4 in tubing 2 3/4in into 1 3/4in,will this be fine?like this

i will=) gonna be hard to get clear gravel tubes in mexico without buying the whole vac
 
Looking at your diagram - I wouldnt use bio-balls since this is submerged. Is it submerged? The ceramic noodles are good mechanical pre-filters and should go first. I would replace the bio-balls with matrix or efi-strat and not worry about floss at all. One flaw I can see is you might get a lot of particulate waste dumped back into the tank as soon as you turn off the powerhead.
