Hi all, thought you might like to see the tank stand I'm building for a good friend of mine. You could call it a green project since I'm building it out of various scraps & leftovers from other projects. Some of the plywood is even reclaimed from my friend's garage siding! Happy to hear your comments!!:popcorn:

1 & 2. some before & after of how the reclaimed plywood cleans up

3 & 4. some pieces of 5/8" finish ply that will become the upright tank supports.

5 & 6. the structure is coming together with vertical and horizontal supports via strips of 3/4" ply (3-4 different species!). Stand is for a 55gal but I designed it so a 29gal sump/breeding tank will fit in the bottom center section. Also, the two side compartments will have doors and are big enough to house a xp3, 5gal bucket, etc.

7. top being glued up. field is more of that reclaimed 3/4 ply (think it's red oak) and the trim is poplar; again left over from building bunkbeds for my girls earlier this year! GO GREEN!

8. pic of the stiles/rails for the doors which will receive flat panels made from some maple ply leftovers.

Enjoy!

thanks! tank is 55gal. The top will extend 6-7" on either side of the tank.

hmm.. "green"..... that sound a lot nicer than "using an old bookshelf and a few pallets" like i do..

looks good so far

:ROFL::ROFL: Hey man, whatever works!! Thanks for the kind words

Here are some updated pics. Nearly done! Next round of pics will be of completed stand once doors are installed and I've applied the poly.

1. flat panel doors completed
2-3. top attached and trim applied
4-5. close-ups of trim
6-11. stain in various stages from different views.

The shelves in the end compartments are removable. The center bay will have an adjustable shelf.

Nice job!!! To bad you live so far away or I would have you make me a stand.
You should make a few and sell them on ebay.

Nice job!
