State of Emergency
Two of my ballasts went in the old reliable florescent lighting. so I parted them out & left 2 empty shells.

Well I gos sick of the tank in the kitchen not having any lights, so ....

I went to the sore & picked up some under cabinet halogen pucks.. spent about 10 minutes, screwed the fixtures to existing screw posts in the shells... I know the photos suck but you get the idea ....

They are 12 Volt super cool bulbs (made to be recessed in the wood) .......

That was no flash, but I moved when taking the pic, I will try again ... Perhaps a tripod

*edit*

Ok here is one on a tripod ...
Blurry fish cause slow shutter... I will need to play with shutter/aperture

I love the shadow effects!

halogen lights emmit rays from the wrong end of the spectrum if i remember correctly. They'll make your plants tall and thin. Plus they also output a lot of heat

I have no plants in any tank, cichlids tend to destroy them. and these particular halogen light are 'cool' I was concerned when I started, but I left them on for 10 hours, and they are indeed cool. Although I would touch the bulbs directly, the housings, florescent shells, and tank cover glass were barely warm.

This tank is in the kitchen with natural light, I only use the halogen a couple hours a day for display...

Is there any fish reasons no to use halogen? I haven't seen any.

creative set up i like it
