Recently at the East Coast Monsterfish Konvention I was the proud winner of a 75g full set up minus stand. Had everything to get started but that wasn't enough. I decided it was time to try things in this hobby that were unfamiliar to me, I was going to use a sump.

Then came many hours of research yet fresh water sumps didn't seem nearly as popular as saltwater ones and information was limited at best. I happened upon the beananimal overflow and decided that was the one. I next looked into hob overflow boxes and different styles of internal and external overflows and decided on the calfo coast to coast style. I decided on an internal box for space reasons, the overflow box is 7" deep and 3" wide made with 1/4" glass. The top inside edge is rounded/polished for an even quieter overflow.

I am using a 40b sump that will have the tank drain into filter socks into a large central chamber filled with a massive amount of lava rock and pot scrubbies. I am using 1.5" drains with a 1" return from a Rio HF12 that will go into a 3/4" loc-line Y back into the tank. I was originally going to have the sump drain below the water line and return below it as well but I'm worried about gas exchange. Any input on this would be appreciated.

The tank is drilled and I am awaiting my black silicone to come in so I can install the coast to coast box. Here is one pic and I will post more as stuff comes in. 75g drilled brand new in the package still.

Sorry about the mess in my van lol.

Everything was sourced local where it could be, and if I could not find it I ordered it online.

Wanted to give a bit of an update on my progress. I finished building the coast to coast overflow in the tank last night. Going to paint the back black tomorrow. Bought a miter saw the other day to build my own stand, not doing anything crazy because it'll be in my basement which occasionally floods so I'm not going to intricate. Going to work on building the stand this weekend and then work on the plumbing. Also picked up a new piece of driftwood.

Finally had some vacation time this week so I worked on the tank! I finished up the overflow, plumbing, painting the tank, building and painting the stand, testing the pump + sump and it all is going well. I have a few more super small things to do - gather rocks, get some sand but otherwise I am ready! The pictures are in no particular order but there are sure a few here!

Painted the tops of the pipe black there so if someone sees them they match the tank more :) .

Also painted the drains in the overflow to blend them in more.

Had the local glass shop cut the corners off my glass tops - the loc line would not fit with it normal!

One little issue that I am having is the top of the stand is not 100% level and I have a corner that doesn't touch completely. I am debating between shimming and screwing on a piece of plywood to make it level or if I should just use foam. Any advice here?

It's the top of the stand that is actually un-level not much about 1/16th of an inch but enough that not all corners touch. I am considering using 3/4" foam board from home depot and it should correct itself I believe.

Thanks it was definitely a fair share of work but since I won it at the monster fish konvention figured I better go big.
It's going to house my super red severum my dozen bleeding heart tetras, dozen diamond tetrad, and dozen Congo tetras. I may also incorporate my ebjd if he wants to play nice he has picked off smaller tetras before but these are much bigger.
