I was hoping to have my tanks up and running already, but it's been a crazy year with work so I'm way behind schedule.

I've nearly completed my stand for a 55 gallon tank, all that's left is to fit the doors and install some shelving. I'm quite happy with the end result given that this was only my second ever woodworking project... the first was installing a kitchen in the "renovators delight" my wife and I bought!

Here are some progress photos from early on to where I'm at now.

Early on, front view with one side panel fitted:

Where I'm at now, stained, varnished and just the doors to fit and some shelving to install (on the right-hand side). Front view (which shows the colours the best, the other shots are a little dark):

Rear view:

Here's a view with one of the unstained doors just sitting in place.

I haven't decided what I will put in the 55 gallon tank, I was going to have an Oscar tank but I'm re-thinking that as it would only (just) fit one and I would like a few different subjects to photograph.

So at this stage I would be preferring to post fishy pics rather than pics of my stand, but at least I have taken the opportunity to lurk on this site and learn, buying equipment (such as a flash) in the meantime as well.

wow that looks great. i thought of doing this before but mine would look like something found in a 1st grade wood shop.

Looks good. Rock solid. Looks like it could hold 550 gallons!

So I guess it will not have a sump underneath?

You are way more patient than I am!

No sump, I have an Eheim 2215 and will add a HOB as well.

It was a simple design, no complex joins, good for a beginner like me. But as a result of that it is definitely over-constructed. I had fun though.

Looks good.

I will be working on my stand within next couple of weeks. I can't tell how you handled framing but personally I prefer NOTCH frame finish. You also went HEAVY on bottom moulding .... did you want it that much ?

Yeah, not so happy with the bottom molding. In the end I just needed to get the project completed and it was all I could get my hands on.
Hopefully visitors will be looking at some lovely fish and they won't notice! :)
