The reasons I found for using this particular type of glass for aquarium are;

-It was free...lol (usually it is quite expensive)

-And it is used in homes to save energy... i.e the environment inside remains separate from the external environment. So it is quite efficient at maintaining a stable temperature when using this type of glass for aquariums (potentially reducing electricity bills)

If you have any questions then shoot away. More than happy to answer.

How thick are the individual panes in the assembly in the second picture? That looks like some serious glass. :)

Nice tank by the way. I like the grass bed growing to the left.

umm well the picture i took of the spare glass that i had is of lesser thickness then the one i used for the tank and cos my tank is covered with edgings its hard to tell. over all its 12mm including the spacing in between. Pretty heavy in comparison to other aquriums of the same size.

i wish i could have other plants but the damn bristlense and my gibby eat them to bits as you can tell in the photo hahaha

i had some extra glass after finishing up a waste water treatment plant the other day. just like this insulated piece. i didnt know if the sealant they used to bind them together would be toxic. plus there was only 2 not 5 so i left them! good idea.

Wow how cool. That should definitely save some energy with the right top on it. That would be cool to make a top out of the same glass. As most heat escapes out of the hood.

I think this is the next innovation for the Aquatic hobby. We all dread having the electricity bills that comes with hobby, this would be a great advancement to keeping temperatures at a constant.
