A few months back I posted a thread regarding my 9" Dovii and his shyness.
Times have changed.
Now he hates me.
I am amazed not so much at the sound of him hitting the tank, but at the sound of his jaws snapping shut. He's 10-11" now and is much more interactive. The female is still very shy, she's only about 5-6" long, and spends most of the time hiding under a rock. She still lays eggs, they both guard them , and the eggs disappear a few days later. I have never seen him attack her, but I understand that could change.
The other 2 females I had in the tank (240g) were descaled by the male, as I failed to get them out soon enough. A very ugly sight that was.
Another thing I am pleased with is the color of the male under some cheap GE daylight bulbs I bought at Lowes ( 2 for under $7)
I will attempt to attach some pix. A tank shot, one with flash (greenish fins, with the female hiding under a rock), and one with no flash (bluish fins, and very close to how the fish actually looks)
