I recently got a peacock eel for one of my tanks, he seemed very shy and wasn't eating so thought I would get him a buddy so got another. This worked and they were both quite brave coming out in the open and were also eating bloodworm.
Now for some reason, after afew days, the second one seems to have had his tail eaten by other fish. There is about an inch of bone sticking out with no flesh on it. I separated him but still after a few days it looks the same.. raw and painful... I wasn't sure what to expect as I knew the flesh wouldn't grow back.

What should I do? Should I put him to sleep? just put him back with the others and let nature take it's course?

Please do not assume the flesh won't regrow. It should patch itself so do not perform euthanasia on it nor let its wound aggravated by other fish. IMO, you really should be patient about this. Deep and open wounds do not heal overnight. Do daily water changes in a hospital tank and add Melafix if you feel the healing process is too slow although Melafix is not necessary and like other meds, dose Melafix appropriately as it also may have side effects to the eel.
