I don't know. I think it has something to do about the air amount in the wather. But im not sure, some polyps just seem to hold their gills longer than other.

if you lower it a little it'l carry more O2

It's about 25C. I think he's about to loose them, because their getting smaller now. But i've seen quite big bikirs with gills. I think some people raise the O2 levels in the wather, so that the fish would keep it's gills longer. (but im not sure)

My endi still has its gills as well. I believe mine is about the same size as Sharkbaite. For comparison when I bought my congicus from Toyin it still had some external gills and it was 12".
