I would suggest that everyone try a native catfish, you will be pleasantly surprised. My Father and his friend have a running bet that this catfish will eat the majority of my sunfish. So far, the answer is no. I have had this catfish since May 2010.

They laughed at me when the saw the video of the catfish with my bluegills, green sunfish, and warmouths. They said, you think those fish are protected because of the sticks. I felt confident because the catfish always backed up when he felt the branches.

I was shooting videos of the tanks really late so I didn't look at the footage. This catfish showed me that he could easily maneuver through all the branches I set up for the sunfishes protection. This catfish is 12 inches long and is more agile than any fish in this tank.

Here is that old video:

Well here are some videos shot 3 weeks ago, he has started coming to the surface. You can see the bluegills trying to steal food from the catfish. He does not take kindly to that. Look at the second video at and you will see the catfish bite the bluegills when they keep stealing at 0:20 and 0:32

I can't watch vids at work, but I will when I get home.
I fish for catfish (sorry) and they are/can be aggressive predators. I was feeding my Oscar and JD red wigglers and mealworms, always fun to watch.

I hope the sunfish get smarter...

I see those speckled catfish around a lot and I've never been sure they were bullheads.

There was only two fish that feared the catfish...two green sunfish. The blue/green hybrid killed them before I could move them. As for intelligence regarding the bluegills, they are kamicazes when it comes to feeding. A short time ago I posted about a kamicaze bluegill that went straight into the mouth of catfish by accident going after the mealworm.
