he's going on about 5 years and I'd say he's about 14"TL. Last night the female rose queen laid eggs for the fourth or fifth time. She usually never lets him near the eggs but I always hoped. When I went to bed she had him on one side of the tank and she was on the other side guarding her eggs. I didn't think anything of it until this morning when I came upstairs to let my dog out to find him laying in the same spot of the tank on his side and she still guarding her eggs. I immediately went looking for my master test kit which I then realized I let my girlfriends parents borrow it to test the water in their pond. Knowing I don't have much time I took the female out out and put her in a bucket and gave him a 40% water change. After that I examined him better and he's basically just laying at the bottom of the tank now with a 3-4" heater burn from the top of his nuchal hump to his bottom lip. His gils are barely moving and he's just laying there. I moved him away from the heater (visi-therm stealth) and mounted it at a different angle. I really don't think he's going to pull through this. If he dies I'm probably going to be re-thinking the hobby. Any advice anybody?
