My favorite native is the longeared sunfish. They are absolutly beautiful as you can see. They stay small and are super aggressive. I caught this guy in a creek and put him in a tank untill I could get my Serrsalmus Maculatus. Well this little guy was 4" and my mac was 8" and the sunfish whooped his butt all aorund the tnak when I added the piranha. Dont think for a second that my mac is a pussy because he is crazy and attacks me through the glass all the time but this lil sunfish had no room for some one in his territory! Anyway just thought I would share.

What a great fish, I want one too!

Haha you pay for shipping I can send you as many as you want! I have a ton of cool natives that are good for tanks because they are small. My friend who is a fisheries managment major at Auburn University and I go to our local creeks with seine nets nd can catch all kinds of beautiful small fish including these, rainbow darters, minnows, and more. Soon the semester will be over and he will be back in town so I for sure will post pics of our collecting trip. I am hoping he can bring me back some very small gar and bowfin from a swamp near him down in Alabama when he comes back.

Definitely post pics, I collect darters as well. I only have found Iowa Darters and Johnny Darters so far.

I would love an Orange Throat darter.

Im not good at IDing darters because there are many differnt species. We caught an awesome one last year. It was colorful, almost like a rainbow, and good size too at about 2". Its belly was an awesome bright green as well as its pectoral fins that were as long as its body. It was such an amazing fish but sadly it died and lost all its colors before we could take pics.

That will be the next fish I plan on collecting , It will do nicely with my green sunfish

Do you have anymore tiny longears, pumpkinseeds, orange spots, or dollar sunfish? And about how much do you think the shipping would be to southern michigan?

Chad

I would like a Longeared Sunfish too. Anyone know what their native range is?
