Hi guy's before I purchased my ray I was told that a varied diet is key however when I purchased my ray from Wharf Richard advised me to keep it on pellets and only offer earth worms as treats (I hope I heard this correctly?!) so have been feeding my 5" motoro a couple of times a day with as many pellets as he can eat in 5 minutes, usually about 15 a time of hikari chiclid gold is this enough or should I be feeding more at a time or perhaps less but more frequently?

How often should I give him a earth worm or two? I don't want him to come off the pellets as I realise this is great food for them? Sorry to open a new thread, I've searched lots of old threads but cannot find something as specific as this and after viewing the previous thread its made me think I should really bump up my feedings?

Thanks in advance!

Okay this has some problems. Feed him as much as he can eat. And you don't keep him on a certain food like pellets and earthworms from time to time. Variety is the key for ray keeping. Switch it up with shrimp, bloodworms, blackworms, small chunks of fish, squid, and other stuff he will eat.

Sounds like your doing things right. Some people here feed pellets exclusively. Though there are some dissagreements on how healthy this is for the animal long term. If you bump up the earth worm feedings, your ray may go on an earth worm strike. Variety is good, but personally I myself would like to get my rays on pellets as their staple diet simply for ease of feeding.

If you dont think you have got it right then give Richard a call or pm him on here im sure he will be more than happy to put you on the right track.

Thanks for the replies fellas! Motoro Magic I'd love to however me thinks I've bothered him slightly too much via phone call ha, I'm sure he's sick of me by now! And I can't PM him due to my lack of posts still, hopefully he might see this thread but I'm most appreciative of any advice!

Your ray is still quite small and there fore will only have a small mouth which is why i think Richard is right in what he has told you.
All rays are different and you will find that with time your ray will start to eat different things like prawns, mussels, lance fish and bigger pellets like massivore.
Keep feeding the way you are atm and you will be fine, but try chopping the worms up a bit as your ray will find these easier to eat and digest.
My pups were 5"/6" and would eat anything but when they went to their new owners they would only eat worms and only sniff other foods, dont know why this is but thats rays for you.
