I found out today, that my femaile Red Devil laid eggs. The male and female are protecting the eggs and they dug a big hole in the gravel. My other cichlids are being pushed to the other side of the tank. What should I do next? My only past experience with breeding was with my Severum Cichlids and that did not go too well because my other fishes went out and just ate the eggs.

Please help.

rd's are good parents.. I would take out the other fish because the rd's could kill them..The just let the rd's do the rest..

if eggs are in a pot or on a plate or something else you can remove that object but if they are spread in the tank or on gravael move other fish to another tank

taking the eggs from the parents may result in the male turning on the female that is not such a good idea..

AGREE! I have said this same thing an many other threads, and I get the same argument. " I have done it this way for years."

The male will kill the female if all eggs disappear. Wait till they are free swimming and they stay in a large group. Now you can remove the fry by using a small siphoning hose and suck up 2/3 of the fry. Leave a hand full for the parents to raise.

Agreed, almost had to save my female salvini because their first clutch of fry disappeared.

Happened to me a few weeks ago. Male salvini beat up female pretty bad after I removed the fry. If I hadn't been there to separate her she would have been dead within a few hours.

just leave the eggs there and remove other fish from that tank or you may find dead fish

u can use divider between your male and female. if u breed your fish then u should have a breeder tank.

Use a divider between the pair and the rest of the fish if anything. It doesn't sound like the male rd is an issue right now.
