I need some advice ASAP. I have my 2 ZZ's in a tank which they are divided due to the male being too aggressive. I have it setup so that under the divider is a teracotta plate shared between both sides of the tank. Also on the females side is a teracotta pot.

My female has decided to go ahead and drop her egg tube and go into breedingmode this afternoon/tonight and she has been removing gravel from the cave which the pot makes and she is also removing the loose pieces of gravel from the plate and is also cleaning it with her belly. What do I do? Do I let the male in with her or wait and see where she lays her eggs. If she lays her eggs on the plate he is able to fertilise them as when I made the divider I made it with larger and wider holes along the bottom for him to be able to have access for fertilisation of eggs.

EEEEEKKKKKK:eek:

Ok so I caught him and put him in with her. She went at him like a bullet which she has never done in the past. They had a little bit of a brawl and she is now hiding up behing the powerhead. I think he went and done his bit on the eggs and he keeps going over them really low to them. I am just wondering whether she is likely to go back and lay more now that he is in there with her tho???

Or should I now remove him?

Well I took him out and put him back in his own side. She then continued on laying more eggs in which she is still doing. It has been going on for over 3 hours now. and the has covered the whole half of her plate. He seems to have been fertilising them thru the divider as he swims onhis side facing the eggs and u can see a haze go thru the water.

Excitement Plus LOL

My friend who works in a LFS that also breeds their fish said to keep the eggs in with the parents and just leave the divider in, so I guess I'll see how I go. Always next time. Atleast I know that my fishies aren't dudds :)

sounds like you will have fry soon buddy. Your best bet is to syphon some water from their tank into a 10 gallon, add an airstone and heater, and transfer the eggs into it. Best of luck. They usually take 3-4 days to hatch. If they turn white they are bad, but if they stay brown and you see 2 dots, your good to go bro.

Yeah I was thinking I was best to do that today. Wow, can't wait to see how they look. I have just got my first batch of JD fry and they look great. Only ever had convicts before or like everyone has as beginners guppies etc How exciting LOL
