It's rare to see red terrors for sale where I live, but came across this young guy (maybe 1.5 -2 inches) in with a bunch of Texas cichlids at my LFS....so decided I am going to grow him out by himself in a 75 gallon, moving up to a 125 or 120 if it turns about to be a male. Realizing it will be a long time watching it grow adds to the excitement and anticipation. I've always wanted one.
But I thought I would confirm first with this forum , despite the poor-ish pics, if it is indeed a Festae, and not a Mayan cichlid? The LFS where I go is kinda sketchy.
Also any advice appreciated. Many thanks.

festae. notice how highly placed (above the lateral line across the body of the fish) the eye spot is.

I'm not experienced IDing them so young though, so if I'm wrong please correct me.

Not sure about this one. I have a few still smaller than that that look like clear 100% festae by their striped body patterns that have been there for a while.
