ok guys, a few questions, I was dead set on getting a 8x3x2 but know rescuing a archara cat, I want him for life, so was thinking a 7x4x 18" tank. is 18 height enough for most monster fish if I ever wanna go with a aro, clown knife, or peacock bass. also has anyone actually had a tank bust from glasscages. I keep hearing people on this forum talk bad about there large tanks but cant seem to find another tank maker. I dont care about silicone pattern. Also i was looking at there warrenty, 90 days with the fact it has to have cushioned bottom and proper stand. Does that mean a factory stand (there stands) I have a woodworker that did a super job on my 225 stand. Which leads me to last question, can a wood stand be just as good as steel stand with that type of weight.

Cant say much about glasscages other than their reviews are quite polarizing. Seems like their more custom jobs come out better. Not sure if they have like senior builder who does well and others and basic and simple so someone new does them or what. As far as the stand, wood works fine for that size. I used 4x4 posts on my old 500g and was told I went way overboard.

I personally would want more height for an arow & bass I think 18 is just too short.

Wood can be just as good as metal, the main advantage with metal is in general it has the best support weight / mass ratio, meaning a 50x50 RHS will support much more then the same in wood. This allows for less vertical legs, no need for center legs over certain spans as wood would bow without as many centers in some lengths and could even snap, guess what I am getting at is a steel stand will be more "clean" on the plus side wood can only rot not rust ( will change person to person but rust can be a pita vs rot ) and if something does go wrong its more simple for the average person to fix a wooden structure.

I personally prefer metal over wood for almost everything but this comes from working with it mainly at work & understanding it.

Now why not use cinder blocks? they will support the tank & much cheaper you can also render them or paint for a nice effect.

I personally also hate how easy acrylic tanks can scratch and that they bow out, yes you can buff them but this means all the fish are required to be removed etc.

there is a local tank maker, which I read in other thread, can get a 8x4x2 for like 3 grand. worth it to me, so lets hope my other house sales soon lol

What's his name? Can you give his contact info? I'm looking to buy a tank like that too.
