ive had my fire eel in my 90g for about 4 days now and i havent gotten him to eat.....he is in the tank with 3 clown loaches, 8 great danios and a tiger pleco and raphael cat. He is very active for an eel and swims all over my tank at night and in the morning as well as periodically throughout the day. ive tried feeding him rosy minnows by hand and i have 4 rosy minnows swimming in there now and ive tried freeze dried brine shrimp...i see him digging in the sand all the time and it seems like he might be find pieces of food but im not sure....HOW CAN I FEED MY EEL?

Go to your local bait shop and get some trout worms. Rinse them off before feeding and try dangling them right in front of his face. Once he gets comfortable eating in your tank you can gradually start introducing him to other types of foods.

That's how I went about it. My fire eel now hands feeds and eats earthworms, frozen bloodworms, and market shrimp.

Try tossing in a few live ghost shrimp. My fire eel started eating about 20 minutes after getting him home.

All of the above.. non-dyed earthworms.. canadian crawlers are my guys preference. they won't touch the smaller trout worms/red worms. Ghost shrimp also work well to get an initial feeding response. and Patience. I would never reccomend starveing your fish to get it to eat what you want it to eat. But they can take awhile to settle in sometimes. feeding when the lights are out. depending on the eels size usually you'll wanna cut the earth worms into 1/4's or 1/3's at first. I also hand feed my guys since I have 3. so I know everyone is eating, and it makes it easier to introduce other foods. At first dropping the peices by where his "home" is should encourage an eating response. Very quickly mine went from grab and dash.. to I see the hand! Dinner!

dont worry. this is common for these eels. when i first got my tt eel i didnt see him for about 2 weeks, try feeding him market shrimp... btw how big is your eel?

I have had my Fire eel for about 3 days, haven't seen him eat at all. Trout worms, frozen blood worms, frozen brine shrimp, freeze dried krill (which that didn't shock me). I haven't tried market shrimp yet.I have a tire track that is a hog, he'll rip worms out of my cichlids mouths, never hesitated to eat any fresh or frozen food.. But I also have a peacock eel that I've had the longest, didn't decide to stay out of the gravel for more than a minute until now( with the intro of the fire eel). I've had him for 9 months, went a month or 2 thinking it was dead.

He has been sick for the 2nd straight day now.

Tank size = 40 US gallons
Tank mates = platys, tetras, pleco, kuhli loaches
What he's fed = frozen bloodworms

I just did a water change today. He has been sick since yesterday. I have had him since March 2009.

He is barely swimming/moving, is not reacting to me (usually he is frightened by me, now he just stays put), and has lost color in his tail.
