I have always thought my firemouth was "semi" aggressive FOR A FIREMOUTH and still think.
How aggressive is it for a Firemouth and is it a male or female?

Oh the sound in the background is Boston Legal..:D

That looks about right, i have two firemouth's, I was trying to pick out a breeding pair, I'm still not sure the sex of them and i've had them for 9 months, so they're probably a year old or so. They're forever flaring up and messin with each other. They're kind of skittish though. You any good at sexing them? one of mine has extremely dark colors, fire-red and a really dark greens/blacks. The other is almost translucent on the back, still bright red mouth but a more "see through-ish" red. Both are very healthy, fins look good, eating healthy etc.

any ideas?

I only have one, he/she is 3". Ship of Fools. Post some pics in another thread and people will help you.
Its very funny, he/she only flares after 22:00. Flares to its own reflection, and me.

I'd say female............I'm not seeing the elongated tip on the dorsal fin that male firemouths have - almost looks like a flag just like male gt's - this tip with extend longer than the tail by at least an inch or 2.

I've read that this isn't really an efficient way to sex them, nor is the brightness of red on the belly. I have one with a long dorsal filament but a very pale red belly, while the other has no filament but an incredibly dark red belly. Is there any 100% sure way to sex a firemouth?

The young firemouths that I've had with black on the lower fins turn out to be females.

how do you expect us too tell you how aggresive your fish is without seeing it interact with tankmates? you might as well show us a picture of it and say how aggressive is it?

You seriously couldn't form an opinion by watching the video? :duh:

I am going with semi aggressive male. Male Because of no black on the anal fins. Nice little fish though wish I still had my female. She was my second cichlid I think. Feisty as well mine was never that up beat.
