i just bought my first silver aro today. its about 2 1/2 inches. what foods are best for color and growth at this stage?

Always post pics of your new fish to show them off. :D

Get your fish on pellets as soon as possible. If you can do that youll be alright. if not, just keep working at it and do not starve him yet. Until then feed him blood worms, freeze dried shrimp, and even small crickets once in a while. Good Luck.

At 2.5 inch you should prob feed him 2 to 3 times a day until he's 10inch+ then once a day or every other day will do. But he's got a lot of growing to do being 2.5 right now =) But growing won't take long. Aro's grow fast.

I got mine that size about 2 monthes ago now. he's now pushing 6"+ in a 20 long ( upgrade or sell very soon, he doesn't play nice w/ my gar.. had to put him back in the 20. not sure to keep or not.. another story ;) ) I gave him feeder guppies and Omega 1 cichlid pellets. I kept the guppy population in the tank at about 2 doz at all times more or less. and offered him the pellets 2x a day.. the guppies where hard enough to catch he took to the pellets real quick. lazy fish.. Hope this helps! but he's gotten some real nice coloration to him. I also do 20% WC's on the tank 2x a week min.. sometimes 3 depending how dirty the tank gets from all the feeding/poop.

2 changes a week huh? That's very good upkeep. I just do a 10% water change per week since i just have 1 rtg in my 75g but I do have two hang filters on it. A Marineland emp 90g rated and aquaclear 110g rated. So if the water isn't too bad depending how much I feed my rtg then I keep to weekly water changes. My rtg is a little more than 9" and I'm feeding him once a day right now with either frozen krill, silver slides or his/her absolute favourite live meal worms. My rtg goes crazy when he/she sees me come home from work reach under the tank and take out this box where I keep the worms. It will eat as many worms as I throw into the tAnk. I sometimes feed the rtg 2times a day still but once it reaches 10"+ I'm going to just do once a day feedings only.

If you don't want ur arow to grow that quick u can limit feeding it less or just start 1 feeding a day now. I know at the lfs the arowanas do not get fed daily usually they get fed every other day Or maybe every two days To limit growth rate and size. But your the arows owner now so u decide.

well sorry guys no pics today. the little guy jumped out. he was still alive when i put him back in the water but didnt look so good. when i woke up this morning he was dead on the bottom. sad sad day. at least my pleco had an expensive meal. before you guys ask, i do have a hood on the tank. he jumped out of the back where the filter hangs. i wish i could get a larger one but theyre too much where i live. $20 for mine, and $60 for a 6-7 incher. oh well i wont let this get me down. im deffinately getting another one soon. after i make the tank aro proof. thanks for the help guys. ill post pics of my next one.
