I understand that I am a terrible pic taker but I think at least some of it is my camera as I have taken nice pics with friends' camera phones but I was cutting edge when digital cameras first made the scene and am stuck with what I have lol. My Polypterus senegal is about 3". These two pics are all I could get to come out so far. He/she is in my quarantine/hospital 29.
Let me know what you think. Suggestions etc. I am quite adept with many types of fish but am a noob with polypterus. Any feedback appreciated, I am quite taken with this little guy/gal. Speaking of which how do i sex it?:headbang2

Anne you are like my new best friend lol. Based on the diagrams you guided me to and the new set of pics I am uploading I am guessing maybe a female by comparing the anal fin with the diagram as it seems a little less muscular than the male in the diagram. I also realize that these things sometimes are hard to put a finger on.

Male or Female, I love this little fish and already have an inkling that I will be a lifelong fan. I am a bony fish fan since '75 and have done reports on coelecanths. In fw we are only going to get as close to the coelecanth as the polypterus or the lungfish.

Oh and sorry about the water drips on the tank in the pics. It is my QT tank and I was a bit excited when I took the pictures and never really thought about aesthetics. Hopefully this second set of pics is better than the first.

Nice!!! I hope to be a bichir owner one day!

I said that sooo many times and I am now regretting not doing it sooner. It cost me six bucks...........

I REALLY wish I'd have started sooner. I love this little one. It is now only behind my fish that I've had for years in my own popularity book.

how ironic! my wife just bought me one today as a surprise while i was at work! he's about 4"

I don't see the irony, but I see the coincidence :D

The baby sen looks great Ullo, very healthy and ready for years of life. The best advice I can give you is to read all of the stickies, and you really wont have many questions after that, just posting lots of pics and hopefuly videos, we need more of those around here :D
