Well I was planning on ordering a small group of Mochokiella paynei this weekend, but I stopped into petsmart today to pick up some supplies and ended up leaving with a new catfish instead :D

It was labeled as Synodontis longirostris, but from what I've read it is most likely a hybrid (S. ocellifer x S. eupterus). Either way, he is super active, especially for a catfish, and imo pretty cool looking. I love the tall dorsal fin and all the whiskers for sure  On with the pics...

I'll get some pictures of him in the tank once he settles in

thanks guys - I just caught him bolting across the tank upside down. I know a lot of the synodontis species are noted for it but its the first time I've seen it outside of S. nigriventris, so it made my day. Also he/she has been officially named ratchet by fiance

Nice pickup! You will love him, my first one was an ocellifer and now I cant get enough of them, get some roots and stand them up so they face down in the tank, then the syno have some natural shelter to hide under, he will most certainly swim upside down then. My swims upsidedown under the roots and when they go out in the open areas swim normally.

Nice I picked up one just like that a couple months ago from Petsmart! A great find my fish has been alive and healthy and it loves it inside our goldfish tank. It's finally about 3.5"

*shakes head* paynes catfish would have been more kickass! a small group of them are really a character- i really miss mine as lost mine in an accident (my fault) and ever since just have been thinking about getting the again
