Hi Guys! I just got my first Auranti and so far he/ she's doing fine! Been reading posts on the Auranti and it seems that if there is a group of fish, it is the female that dominates or bullies the others. So if I see a dominant fish in a tank, most likely its a female. Is this observation accurate? Do females harass other females or just males?
I am still a newbie with Auranti so take this with a "grain of salt".
In my 5 auranti group there was a dominant female that harrassed all the others: males and females...
As regards the dominant being a likely female, I would say it should be correct (stressing the "likely"; not granted)
yes typically one female becomes dominate, assuming you start with equal sized fish and a female is present she'll tend to outgrow and initiate aggressions attacking all other males and females except the male she chooses as a mate. If no female is around a male will become dominate and take out the others.
I noticed your in Manila, Just a heads up, these are subtropical fish make sure you can provide cool enough temperatures or they wont survive very long.
Thanks for your replies Joao M and -DC-. Yes, I'm from Manila but I'll keep the fish in an airconditioned room to keep the water cool. At around 5 to 6 inches, can you already determine male from female based on the dorsal fin?
