I'm wanting some clowns, my fish store sells them but only has 2, wood 2 be fine since I know they like groups? Should I really try to get 3-4? There like 11$ at my lfs that's a lot for some fish when you add them up ..

2 is fine as they will shoal together. If you'd like to see them more as they will tend to hide. Try using floating pellets for a week or 2. It's a nice sight when they swim up to get their food. They'll end up visibly accepting floaters and the usual sinkers .

Two will be fine for a few weeks/months. But really the minimum recommended number for a community is five, as they build intricate communities. I think that Petsmart still has them on sale until the end of this week for $5.

I've got fifteen now in a 125 (soon to be moved into a 360), and when I had just two smaller ones, they were constantly bickering and sparring, even though there were about ten other clowns in the tank with them (though much larger). So I ultimately had to get four more of equal size to the small ones and they all calmed down.

^^^ what buffalo said, the more the merrier. The more you have the more natural, less shy they'll act. Kind of like if I went to a party or something and didn't know anyone, I'd be a little more reserved than if I had 4-5 friends with me. Are they going to be by themselves or will they have tank mates of a different species? On the bright side, with just a couple you can get them used to hand feeding so when you add others, they'll see the original two eating from your fingers and pick it up right off the bat. Good luck, don't forget pictures!
