Just got a 4" orange pike cichlid, he'll be in a 29g for a bit then a possible move to one of the larger tanks. How are these guys with SA/CA cichlids? How about planted tanks? Any other advise would be greatly welcome.

Still a little shy, but here's a couple pics:)

Pikes do great with planted tanks because they don't bother plants, nor do they dig, unless it's to make a cave, but that's rare. Anyway, they will live with CA/SA cichlids no problem as long as they are the same size. Those are awesome pikes and they look great there whole life. Enjoy these little beasts.

Xingu I's get to be about 12-14 inches long..............They look awesome the older they get.

Hey Bderick67,get that Pike on Tetra Cichlid sticks,my Orange loves them!!!!Plus they fatten up real well on them!!I find that mine is 1 on the most sociable fish i own especially at feeding time(reminds me of an Oscar)yours will become sociable after awhile, but be careful they are kinda wimpy when they are smaller,so watch what you keep with it.Good luck!!

Thanks, not eating as of yet. currently tankmates are a couple of small covicts.

They are one of the easiest Crenicichla to keep, great fish pike!! Not to hard to get onto prepared food, very owner responsive, grow large, and get colorful as adults! Great pike!! Just treat it like you would your other cichlids, make sure to give it a varied diet, and fast it at least one day a week so it can digest all its food. You'll soon have a large fishie before you know it! ;)

Thanks, still have yet to see him eat, but always has a fat belly later after feedings:)
