So I just got my first DSLR last week and have taken tons of pics with it already but the last parts came in the mail today so here it is:

Nikon D80 Digital SLR body
50mm f/1.8 Nikor lens
70-300mm f/4-5.6 nikor lens
Sigma EF-500 DG super speed light
MB-D80 Grip (and another battery of course)
Sunpack Ultra 7500TM tripod and head
Kata 123-GO-30 Sling Backpack
And some other goodies (filters/ cap leashes/ sensor cleaning kit/ etc...)

I am so excited to have it! Just wanted to share. Anyone else have a d80?

Hell yeah we are! did you get a good lens yet?

Man you went all out, sweet! Don't know much about those off-brand speedlights though. A buddy of mine has one and the TTL flash gives wonky results. Just curious, why didn't you stick with Nikon lights? With genuine Nikon lights you can also take advantage of wireless TTL lighting :)

I got the sigma for free. I am just going to test it and see how I like a speedlight before I buy a nice one. I do have my eye on a nice lighting kit but it will have to wait...

Right on. Yeah when it comes to TTL metering and flash output, nobody knows their own software like Nikon does. Start out with a SB-600, they got for about $225 new

Thanks I will look into it. Do you know where I could find out more about using a flash? I am still pretty new to REAL flash photography.

Once you understand the basic photography concepts, get this book. It was fantastic!! Best $20 I've ever spent. He's coming out with a new one in few months dealing with off-camera lighting.

He focuses around wedding shoots, but his info can be applied to any scenario. But you need to understand the basics like white balance, exposure metering, shutter speed, ISO, aperture, and the affects each of these has.

Okay thanks I will look into it. I think I have pretty much mastered metering, white balance, and all that stuff which is why I want to look into different lighting techniques to further enhance my shots.
