Well here he/she is! Ive had her for 3 days in my 5.5 gallon and jsut today put in sand. She is feeding on frozen brine shrimp and if the water chemistry is fine after a few weeks she will be getting friends. So what do you all think? In advance I'm sorry bout the quality of the pics, its my cell and the puffer is 1/2" long IF THAT! :D

OMG that is TINY! I used to have a figure 8, but he died last summer due to the heat. Enjoy your puffer, they are great fish! One of the few fish who recognize faces and come to the window to "say hi".

Thanks, sorry to hear bout your puffer. I'm actually little nervous about this little gal. My mom got it for me after my mosquito fish got fried by a heater malfunction. I was talking about it and that day while I was at school I came home to find she had bought me 1 and frozen brine shrimp and a fern. Awfully nice of her to do but I'm not to knowledgeable on them so any advice you have I'm all ears!

I fed my figure 8 on snails and clams and erm... what are they called?... erm... they are like little lobsters... well baby lobsters would do i suppose.
Anyway, i also fed him bloodworms, live mealworms, the occasional deformed baby guppy from my own tanks as well as other deformed baby fishies I might have had in one of my tanks. He liked to use plants to hang and hide in to get some rest. Although they have a rep for being fin biters, mine never did it.
If your puffer is really that tiny little puffer that doesnt get any bigger than say the top part of your thumb then you should have more of the same kind. As far as I know those tiny little puffers are the only kind that school together. But i could be wrong on that account.
Keep in mind that every puffer is different, they truly have personalities. Mine liked to be hand fed, in fact if I didn't hand feed him he would hardly eat. And from what I have seen from my own puffer, they can get attached to their human. When my husband walked in while I was feeding my puffer would hide. As soon as he left the room my puffer would come back out and feed again. But like i said, every puffer has a very distinct personality. Just sit there, watch yours and bond with it. Most puffers are in my experience like miniature underwater dogs...lol

I think you mean crayfish ;), I will be upgrading them to a 10 gallon probably. So Im thinking of getting 5, this sound like a good number?

5 of those tiny little things in a 10 gallon sounds about right, just make sure these little ones actually are the schooling puffers before you buy more of them tho. If you know the Latin or scientific name of this little one I could give you more info then you want!

I think 5 is going to be too many. Dwarf puffers seem to be very territorial and like their space. I would suggest no more than two in a ten gallon.

This is my dwarf puffer setup.

Initially I had three, two females and a male, and the females killed the male in a few days. Since then I've just kept it at two. The only things I can get them to eat are frozen bloodworms and live snails. My two puffs I've had for about 6 months now share their home with 2 otto catfish and 4 red cherry shrimp.

When feeding the two puffers sometimes still go after each other but other than that they are ok. If you are going to keep more than one I would suggest putting some more plants, wood, or other objects in your tank to break the lines of site as much as possible. Make sure each puffer has his own territory where they can be alone if need be.

I keep 1 pair in my 10g, 5 is way too many.
