Last night I purchased a eheim 2217 for my new 75. The filter comes with media and hoses all for 163.98 with shipping!:headbang2
This 75 is going to have a sand bottom should i put a sponge over the filter intake????

That's a little high priced petsmart has it for 135 + 6 dollar shipping and I just ordered one from kensfish for 137 + 10 dollar shipping, but I got alot of other stuff too. But honestly I still would've payed 163, it's a great filter that lasts forever and is whisper quiet, plus media and hoses cost like 50 dollars by itself so in total it's a great deal. No prefilter is neccesary as the eheims are designed with the motor on top so the sand settles and the bottom of the canister.

True it is a little high for the base model but this comes with quick disconnect hoses and it is loaded with eheim substratpro, which costs a buttload.

Love the substrate pro I got a 2215 on a 55 with a few "companion" filters but I have no doubt the eheim is what made the water invisible. A few days after I started using it it made a huge difference in water quality.

Dont forget the spray bar and media it comes with. Saves a ton of cash and the spray bar rules after you put three or more 1/8 inch holes in it.Helps increase flow in my experience.
