Right Behind You
Hiya fellas first post first dat so Hi. :)
i have a problem that i hope you guys can help me out with please i got a new 150 gallon tank (give or take) a dat and oscar only,so i had a problem with the tank and had to put my dat in a small tank with only an oxygen pump for almost 35 hours to fix my tank with a new heater and filter.so now i put him in the tank and his color seems off (lighter with light black not gold and black the way i got him)he has one white spot and is hiding all day so is there a way i can fix it hes 3 inches.

sorry for my bad writing.

150 give or take? What are the dimensions of the tank? What is your filtration and water parameters?

It is normal for dats to not have their gold and black when they are not comfortable with their surroundings. If your parameters and everything is all good, his colors will get better. He just needs time to get use to his home.

yeah keep an open mind though when it comes to the "he just needs time" statements.Thats totally open for interpretation.I was told the same thing and now 3 months later my dat might be kinda starting to look a little more stable..... or maybe its just my imagination.

Thats all that can be said though...he just needs time.As long as you have seen him stable at some point in time you know he does at least have the ability to stabilize and therefor should come around sooner or later (usually later). Some dats on the other hand just don't have the ability to ever stabilize. So as long as you have seen it stable at some point in time thats what is important.

That being said when I did my search awhile back on the subject of datnoid stability I found it usually takes about a month for a dat to stabilize if its actually able to.My ST however is going on three months as mentioned and there is somone on here,steve_89 I believe, who waited three years for one of his ST to stabilize.

yes i agree totally.... ive had 2 dats for over 5 months now and every once in a while they act normal, however most of the time they usually hide and only come out to eat or harass a comet....lol. Love the fish but they barely let me see them.
