Hello,
We finally were able to get our very first Festae here in Las Vegas.
Ive been waiting for a very long idea I was never willing to pay for one
to be shipped so we waited on a waiting list.

We were finally called in February by our LFS that had purchased 10 of them
and he was selling for 39.95 at around 3'' total length. Here we are now in May
and she is a little more then 5'' total length and is starting to finally change colors!!!

Were so excited. I have attached three pictures from the day that we brought her
home to a picture taken last night, She has a permanent home in my Man Cave
inside a 90 gallon with a female JD and a female convict.

Please tell me your thoughts
We purchased as a F1 Equador True Festae as it was labeled.

Thank You

Congrats, do you only have one?the second pic looks male, the third pic looks to have some female characteristics but might be male. If its the same fish then I'm leaning towards male:) but either way Congrats!!!

This is my only one, I kind of thought too ive been on MFK a number of times looking at Festae comparing to my own. We now believe it to be female, in its smaller sizes it really did look Male.

So judging my last picture do you guys think it is a male or female It is exactly 5''
I netted her last night and used a ruler with her still in the net.
I am leaning towards female personally every week that goes by it looks more and more female
and the bars are starting to stay

All three pics are of the exact same fish, and all were taken in the afternoon with the lights being on in the tank for the day

To me it looks to be male in the last picture just by looking at the bottom fins but its not to clear to me the color. But Im not 100% sure
What color are the bottom fins? Black or almost beige/tan?
My male looked similar when he was smaller.

I will check tonight, I believe it to be changing also its kind of tan with the bottom half a blueish color, and the face itself is kind of dark and blueish looking, the face tends to change colors a bit, but the bars have stayed permanently for the last week or so.

Well it takes a lot of personal experience to be able to visually sex them. You can look at as many pics online as you want and they will still fool you. There is a chance that it could be a female but from the pics I'm still gonna say male until further notice:) BTW the bars have nothing to do with the sex, also the dorsal on a male can get dark top which has fooled a lot of people.
