I got my first fish a couple days ago, a Blue Gourami. I know it's no monster but being my first fish, I thought I'd get something hardy and cheap. Gouramis are beautiful fish and I plan on adding some more Gouramis, perhaps some tigers or golds, to my 55gal. Hopefully a BGK will be joining the Blue Gourami.

The Blue Gourami is eating well and does hide in the corner some of the time but at night with the moonlight on he comes out to explore the tank.

Sorry for the long post, I guess I'm just kinda excited for my first fish:D

Congrats on your first fish.

I've kept quite a few different types over the years, Blue, gold, pearl, dwarf, RTGG, GG, Kissing. all great fish, although I found the dwarf and blue/golds can be quite agressive at times. Both types of GG go through a very aggressive stage during the transition from juvi to full adult. Beautifully graceful fish and a pleasure to keep.

hey all, here's an update on my gouramis...
i now have 3 gouramis (a blue, a gold, and an opaline). it appears that the blue and opaline are females and the gold is a male. the blue has been chasing around the opaline a little and then one morning i found the opaline to have some pretty bad fin-nipping but still be in alright shape.:( other than that instance, they seem to be doing well and are beautiful fish!

Pearl Gouramis are my favorite medium sized Gourami. I don't think you can beat a male Pearl Gourami in full breeding colors!
