I have read about other people having tanks crack and flood the whole place but I never thought it would happen to me - until today. I had just finished doing a water change on two tanks, the 320 g and the 165 g, and I had just sat down on the couch to relax when heard a popping and whooshing sound. What the heck is that? The 60 g sump had cracked on the back panel and was making a water fall onto the floor! What a mess! It's a good thing I had a shop vac handy or it could of really messed up the carpet. I am running two dehumidifiers at once in the fish room, that should take care of the moisture eventually. :irked:

What a bummer. The sump was a wet/dry for the 320 g fw predator tank. The tank has 2 motoro rays, a jardini and a tiger dat. Luckily, I had just set up 3 feet of air stones with a HiBlow 80 air pump. There is also a hydor sponge filter with a MJ1200 ph and a Fluval 404 for filtration, so I should be okay as long as I watch the ammonia and nitrates.

Now I'm wondering if I should fix the sump, get a new one, or buy an Eheim cannister filter (which doesn't explode). What would you guys suggest?

Geez.....You got me thinking the 320 exploded fo a mnute there....Wet dry sump setup hold more open space for biological filtration...On the other hand, THe EHeims will not EXPLODE.....

OUCH!!!!

i second that. wonderful filter for $180. rena xp4 aint bad either

atleast you know these wont turn into an unexpected carpet cleaning.

sorry to hear that. at least it wasn't the tank itself. i have an fx5 on my 300 gal and works great so far, and way cheaper than an eheim big enough for a 320 gal. it all depends on your needs and your wallet. lol

i would love to know whee your getting a fx5 for 180. my lfs has one and they want $372 for it.

that sucks...I would nix the full sump and turn it into a wet/dry and it wont have near as much pressure

I was checking on canister filters today and saw a Rena XP3 for $199. Has anyone used these before? I was originally thinking of a Eheim Pro II 2828 but it costs almost double the XP3. I am using a Fluval 404 right now but I need to manually prime it by filling the hose. I would like to replace it with a bigger and better unit.

I was using my sump as a wet/dry but I forgot to shut off the overflow pipe when I shut the return pump off. The sump filled to within 1" of the top from the overflow and stopped, so I thought I was alright. Wrong! At least I was home when it happened; I could of been away during a power outage and have had it happen then. Maybe in the long run I'm lucky it happened when it did.
