well i've definately found out that between my JD and GT, one is male and one is female, cause when i got home today i had a bunch of little fry swimming around, the question is, now what, i've got another tank around here, 15 gal hex, should i pull them out right away or not. the parents are doing a good job fighting off everyone else in the tank. also, the other tank isn't cycled or anything like that, and what do you use for filtration? any help would be great.

If the otehr tank was set up AND you wanted to either raise the fry or eliminate fighting in the main tank, I would have suggested removing babies and attempting to raise them separately from their parents. Not having a cycled tank in this case is no problem as you could easily transfer 10-15 gallons of water from the main aquarium. The lack of a spare filter is however a problem. Looks like you have no choice but let nature take its course and have little ones eaten one by one. What I would do though is buy an extra filter. If these fish bred once, they mosr certainly will again. Just be ready for the next time

let them raise the fry,its more interesting, and the fry arent likely to be worth much anyway.

i do have another filter, i was just wondering if a regular hob is fine or if it would suck them up, i think i'll just see what happens this time around and it is really interesting watching them scoop up the lil ones and spit them back out in the hole they dug.

So weird thing, the fish i bought as a green terror looks more and more like my jack dempsey every day, i'm almost starting to think petsmart miss labeled it and i was dumb enough to believe it for this long... just got my new camera, maybe i'll get some pics of the lil guys

To prevent fries from being sucked into a power filter, get a piece of pantyhose (just make sure its brand new and was never worn/laundered) and attach it over th efilter intake securing it with a sturdy rubberband :)
