yay i got some mushrooms :D they are very pretty, do you know what type they are?

well i wanted to know a few things:

i've counted 12 mushroom heads on both sides of the rock...the rock is 5inch by 3inch and about an inch thick. How much would that retail at? i wanna know if i got ripped off lol

there is a different type of mushroom on the back about 1cm round i was thinking about cutting it from the rock and getting a small peice of rock and useing some netting to hold it to the rock so i can place it somewhere else otherwise they will die/won't be seen, is this ok? if it goes wrong ...no great loss as i wouldn't be able to see them anyway.

1'st pic is when i first placed it in and 2nd is this morning :D

Before fragmenting the rock, find out if the mushrooms are polyps or if they are worms like a feather duster. If they are worm-like, then fragmenting the rock could kill all of them. If they are polyps, then you only need to know how deep they live. I haven't done any research into coral fragging so I can't give you much advice right now on how to do it.

Instead of netting, you can glue the fragments to new rock using some five minute epoxy. It will cure underwater and is fish safe after it cures. Of course, that means to do the gluing in a separate container of water.

hmmmmmmm i paid £15 so i did good huh...

not sure if i should leave it or not ...i've been reading about cuttings and such seems pretty easy with mushrooms

Princess, The mushroom polyps will slowly but surely move around and migrate on their own. I wouldn't mess with em.

:iagree:
I'd only move it if it happened to be buried beneath the rock.

Mushrooms can move (albeit very slowly) as well as 'extend their stalks' (as much as 2"/5cm) and 'reach for' the light. They can also 'detach' themselves, and let water flow relocate them to other areas in the tank. Additionally they typically multiply quickly.

i'll leave it then, but it will die because it has nowhere to move to since its sqaushed on the underside of the rock. i can always buy more mushrooms...different types...the 4 under the rock are stripey ones

How about repositioning the rock so that it's vertical instead of horizontal (so that the right portion of the rock would then be at the bottom). That way indirect light could at least reach all of the mushrooms? In any case I'd recommend manually removing them and giving them a chance, than keeping the buried (when given a chance mushrooms can actually be hard to kill).

If that position is not preferred, could you post a pic of the obscured mushrooms?
