Gday all,I got this guy 2 days ago.Im pretty sure its a mono but would like the experts opinions if they could. When i got him he was pretty skinny, tried prawns, even tried prawns on fishing line and wiggled it but still no go.i went and got some feeders this morning and put 2 in bout 3 hrs ago and still hasnt touched em.its probably the new environment, but being already skinny i thought it would of nailed the feeders for sure.hes 9.5 inches long.hes in a 24''x24'' by himself at the moment cause i put him in my 8fta and my TSN had a few attempts at an attack.i want to stocky him up a bit so he can go in the big tank.also will the bars on the side of the pbass become darker with size? and can anyone tell the sex? cheers guys:)

give him a day or so he will eat. i doubt he will eat market shrimp the first day.. you are most likely going to have to train him to eat shrimp. check out DM sticky at the top of this forum ... basically get him eatting one at a time from the top of the tank and when he is readily waiting for food in a week or 2 give him a feeder and then toss in a piece shrimp. at 9- 10 inches he is deff a mono. just to let you know he doesnt look that skinny, he is not obese like most over fed cichla on the forums. he has awsome yellow ;) the bars will get dark with a dark background and substrate.. as for male or female... you can tell by head shape or if you have another male in the tnak he will get a hump on his head since he is nearly mature and monos spawn around 12 to 13 inches. if i had to guess possibly a female

good lookin mono dude!! if all else fails try either BW or BH, it's "baby food" fer fish but it usually works!!

thanx 4 the tips guys! Opiate, not sure what u mean BW BH? Do u mean bloodworms?

i put 3 feeders in the tank last nite and they were all gone by this morning.i put one in just before but he didnt attack it at all.im sure it will be gone by the morning but is this normal 4 breakin a fish into their new environment? once he does get trained on to prawn will i have 2 do the whole feeder training program when i finally move him to my 8 fta? ive done it before with a very stubborn spotted gar that i had but i finally cracked him.from what ive read pbass seem to be just as tricky.

If it won't eat in front of you, but the feeders are gone later on when you come back, it's because he ain't used to you yet. They need to learn who their master and food provider is. That's what my two monos did to me at first. Then once they recognized me, they'd come greet me and swim up and down the glass towards me like they're begging for food.

ive starved my bass for 3 days now and the stubborn bugger still hasnt taken any food.i put fresh prawn in every day but its there when i get home.he still hasnt eaten a feeder in front of me yet either.should i just start putting 1 feeder in a day until he starts coming up for food eagerly or continue starving until he gives in???

feed em....

gday all,its been nearly 3 weeks and his still not keen to come to the top when i throw feeders in.im throwin 1 in at a time and he waits til the feeder swims close to him them he nails it.seems to be quite shy.should i leave a day between feeding when throwin a feeder in??
