I went to my LFS recently and bought my first pike yesterday. It's a Crenicichla Saxatilis. The worker there informed me that he was missing an eye; He assumes it happened when the fish was very young because now it's all healed over and he behaves completely normal. He was so cheap and his colors were so nice, I had to buy him. He is in my 75 gallon right now with some other larger fish but I was considering moving him into a 55 gallon and keeping him with other pikes... Could this work or is it a recipe for disaster? Keep in mind I'm new to pike cichlids. Would it be better to house him with others of the same species, or of different types of pikes? Or could I try finding a female and getting them to spawn? This is another thing I've always wanted to do with my fish. If not, will he get big enough that he can stay with my silver aro, gars, and oscar?

I have three sax type pikes, they are all in different tanks, they just won't get along. We would love to see photos.

You can house pikes together, but I wouldn't try with anything less than a 6ft tank.

unless you are talking dwarf pikes, might be able to do a group of those in a 55.

I have quite a few fish in a 135, including a Crenicichla Vittata (wild caught), Crenicichla Sveni, and Crenicichla Minuano(wild caught).

Sxatalis types have very high interspecific aggression. I agree with what was posted above.

I had a big male sax pike in my 210 and he got along with my two lenticulata. But again, that's a large tank. I wouldn't keep any pike, except for a dwarf species, in a 55. A male sax pike still has the potential to be an 8"+ fish.
