all over
I just picked up a nano cube yesterday for free. My question is, it came with live rock, but its all dried out. should i just throw it away or put it back in the water? also, I'd like to keep a little predator fish in it, what would be a good fish for this tank? I'm going to set it up today, so I'll be attempting to post pics.

The dried out rock is to be concidered base rock now. Before adding back to a tank, i would soak and scrb to remove what dead matter you can. Can take up to about 6 months for dead rock to become fully live.

Predator wise, there are not that many you can add to a nano. How many gallons exactly is it?

Nano imo is under 30 gals. You will be very limited to what "predator fish" you can put in there. Is this your first SW tank? If so be prepared to be very very patient. You have a good 2 months before you can add any livestock to that tank

How manny gallons? you can use the rock again, you should go and get a few pounds of new live rock and place it on top of the old rock to seed it

I've had a nano before, but sold it when I had to move.

the nano i believe is about 12 gallons, I'm thinking about putting a small 1" panther grouper or a dwarf lion fish, and growing them out in the tank untill I get my new 180.

I'll scrub down the rock like you said, and add some new rock to it.

just get some new liverock to seed the dried out stuff.

do u realize that a panther grouper need a min of 300 gals? Even a 1" panther grouper is way too big for a nano

Yes i realize that a panther grouper needs a big tank. but 300gallons? I would believe it all depends on the dimensions of the tank.

a 1" panther grouper is not to big for a nano tank, he will get to big yes, but hes not to big at the moment. Its just easier to grow small fish out in a nano tank than putting them in a huge tank and trying to feed them.

Before I moved I had over 10,000 gallons of water in my house, so trust me when I say, I'm not a novice.

I'm probably gona do that, I only have like 2 small pieces so its not that big of a deal.

they range from 20 - 24" if im not mistaken. so I would believe a tank thats 6x2.5x2 would be fine for a panther grouper.

a 2 inch clownfish is debated over whether or not it can live in a 12 gallon.. the grouper is a no go..
i really wouldn't start one in less than a 40-55 unless it was a quaranteen

if it's only 12 gallons, why not try a mantis shrimp?

if you could find a pygmy frogfish im sure that could work if you got a small skimmer for him..

if you had one of the 24, 28, or 29 sizes you could have gotten like a dwarf lion or something.. but 12 gallons is just WAY too small
